After several months in 2024 with high dynamic changing weather conditions with many days with rain and thunderstorms, on Saturday the 31st of August, one airplane with club members from the ESAaviators at ESOC could lift off from the ground for a club event with extended flight routing to the south.
For the afternoon, growing risks with thunderstorms where forecasted. Therefore, after carefully analysis with the weather conditions already I the days before, the planning changed, to meet already at 9:00 local on the airfield, to use the calm weather conditions in the morning for the flight track in the alps.
With some wind from the front, after ~90 minutes flight time the ‘lake of Konstanz’ was reached. The most amazing and very impressing flight track started along the lake to the east. Over the lake at Bregenz the border to Austria was crossed, following the border to Switzerland to the south, after some minutes the route followed a long and wide valley inside the Austrian alps, region Vorarlberg, to the east. Via the ‘bottle neck position’ Arlberg pass / St. Anton with ~5.900 feet, the border to the Austrian region Tirol was crossed in Flight Level 8000. Over city Imst the heading turned to the north- east. During the pass by of the impressing ‘Zugspitze’ mountain, as highest mountain in Germany, the border to German was crossed. Via turning back to the north – west, the routing via, the lake ‘Forggensee’ with castle ‘Neuschwanstein’ , the flight crossed the beautiful bavarian region Allgäu, with landing stop for the lunch break at airfield ‘Leutkirch- Unterzeil’.
